A security worker with a history of repeat drink driving offences has been stripped of his license after a ruling by the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority (PSPLA).

Austin Fa’ase’e had his certificate of approval canceled immediately after being convicted of his third drink driving offence in less than three years, along with breaching a zero-alcohol driving order.

On December 13, 2024, Fa’ase’e was convicted of:
✔ Driving with excess breath alcohol (third offence)
✔ Driving contrary to a zero-alcohol order

As a result, he was:
✔ Disqualified from driving indefinitely
✔ Sentenced to four months of community detention
✔ Placed under supervision for one year

Under Section 62(e) of the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Act 2010, a driving disqualification under Section 65 of the Land Transport Act is an automatic ground for disqualification from holding a security license—unless a waiver is granted.

Fa’ase’e did not attend his PSPLA hearing or apply for a waiver. While he had previously claimed to have attended counselling and alcohol rehabilitation programs, he failed to provide any proof of participation.

He was also asked to submit a letter from his employer confirming his alcohol issues were not affecting his work, but he never provided one.

PSPLA Orders Immediate License Cancellation

On January 29, 2025, the PSPLA ruled that Fa’ase’e was no longer suitable to work in security. The decision means:
✅ His security license is revoked immediately
✅ He must return his security ID within seven days or face a fine

The ruling highlights the strict standards required for security personnel, particularly those with responsibilities involving public safety and judgment under pressure.

The PSPLA continues to take action against individuals in the security industry who fail to meet ethical and professional standards.
